UX Simulation by Forage

This was done as a job simulation for BP thanks to Forage. It’s a way for people to get a feeling on how the work experience would be like with the company they’re “working” for. For me, BP gave me the task of designing a new feature for their Electric Vehicles, but I was given the choice of what kind of objective I can do with said type of vehicle. I decided on,
“Creating a feature that allows EV users to check their car battery percentage if they have enough to book the nearest charging station”.

I honestly don’t have much knowledge with Electric Vehicles (EVs), so I did some research on how charging EVs work, as well as getting a clearer perspective of EV users and how they live with them. All I know is that, where I live, EV charging stations are quite scarce and can take up space since there would tend to be limited stations for users to charge their EVs. With all of that, I created a Persona that would best describe an EV user that relates to the main challenge of this project.

Here comes the fun part, designing the skeleton of the project. I mainly want to show the battery percentage of the EV in the home screen, while also having a section for a user to locate the nearest charging station with ease. The rest is designing how most applications would design the UIs for maps. Have space to show nearby stations on the top, and the location name and small description on the bottom.
Not only that, but I wanted to add the estimated percentage of the car battery that would be used just to get there. That way, the user can be informed of how much of the EV’s battery is left.

Colors
Finally, I added the colors and typography, added a few icons and images on the home screen. I implemented a small BP start up that transitions to the home screen, and included a small section in the location description that gives small information if the location has the type of EV they offer and refreshments for the users.
Then it was time to prototype the design by adding the necessary buttons that a user would press to book a charging station.

This job simulation gave me a better understanding of designing map related features, and gaining some knowledge in the Electric Vehicle business. This is one of my early projects, and I wanted to test myself to design something that can be presentable if given the opportunity to show it to a BP employee.
